About this Gateway

The Grand Challenges Annual Meeting aims to catalyze collaboration among researchers, funders, and other partners to accelerate innovation for impact in solving the world’s most urgent global health and development problems. Past meetings have been held in the United States, South Africa, Thailand, Tanzania, India, Canada, Brazil, China, United Kingdom, Germany, and Ethiopia.


Gateway Areas

The 2019 Annual Meeting in Addis Ababa was an opportunity to engage scientific excellence globally and in Africa, and build on the momentum of global partnerships and the growing Grand Challenges community.

The 2019 meeting was be co-hosted by the Ministry of Health (Ethiopia), the African Union, Grand Challenges Canada, the United States Agency for International Development, Wellcome and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The meeting included scientific tracks, with sessions running in parallel, and a series of complementary plenary sessions and side meetings.

Through a combination of virtual plenary sessions, scientific tracks and networking opportunities, the 2020 Grand Challenges Annual Meeting will provide a forum to share work, learn about cutting-edge advances in the field and accelerate collaborations.

The meeting is to be co-hosted by Grand Challenges Canada, the United States Agency for International Development, Wellcome and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The meeting, which was originally scheduled to be held in Delhi, was supported by key partners in India, including the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India (DBT) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The 2022 Annual Meeting, which will take place in Brussels along with an option for virtual participation, will focus on the urgency of investing in innovation for all. Through a series of scientific tracks, plenaries, roundtables, and side meetings, we will discuss the keys to improving pandemic preparedness and response and to unlocking more global health equity in between global emergencies.
  
The meeting will be co-hosted by the Global Grand Challenges network of partners, and sponsored by Grand Challenges Canada, the United States Agency for International Development, Wellcome, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
